Budget Stays in Copenhagen

13 April 2017

We are often asked for a list of places to stay in Copenhagen.   We always find it a bit difficult to recommend places as we are lucky enough to stay with friends when we are there and also hotels can be a bit of a challenge in Denmark’s capital as they are very expensive.   The arrival of Air BNB has really opened up the city as have some of the new budget friendly hostels.

In true Danish fashion you will find modern and stylish accommodation for good prices, and don’t worry, it’s not all bunk beds and shared dormitories!

Budget friendly WakeUp Copenhagen offers two centrally located hotels by famous Danish architect Kim Utzon which are both characterised by modern, minimalist yet supremely stylish and high quality modern design features. Copenhagen’s Wake Up hotels offer facilities associated with 3- and 4-star hotels at 2-star prices

For cool and reasonably priced accommodation, head to the vibrant Vesterbro area and close to the trendy Meatpacking district where Urban House opened in March 2015 with a funky bike shop, tattoo shop, bar and restaurant. The ‘hipster hostel’ offers a variety of rooms from a single ‘shoebox’ to larger rooms with private facilities for couples, families and groups of people. There are also lockers to store valuables, a laundry room and a self-service kitchen.

More hostel accommodation can be found in the Bedwood Hostel which opened recently in an historic seafront warehouse dating back to 1756. Billed as Copenhagen’s ‘cosiest’ hostel, it’s situated in a quiet spot in vibrant Nyhavn and has been renovated by two seasoned hostel travellers, using recycled materials in as many places as possible to create their vision of the perfect hostel for their fellow travellers.

Alternatively, the Generator Hostel in Copenhagen, part of the chain of European city centre hostels, offers a lively and playful interior with a refurbed lobby reception area, bar, restaurant and petanque course.

Perfect for the budget traveller and just a stone’s throw from Vesterport Station with a view of Copenhagen’s lakes, Arp-Hansen Hotel Group will launch the Group’s first hostel in the former headquarters of the Danish Metalworkers’ Union in the summer. New York-inspired with an industrial chic atmosphere, the aptly named Steel House will set a new standard for the modern city hostel with raw elements, soft textures and rustic interiors.
